Audacity 3.0.2 - Issues Running ACX Check

I have osBig Sur & just downloaded Audacity for the first time and have a few audiobook deadlines approaching in the near future. However, I am running into the issue that I cannot get ACX Check to install. I’ve downloaded it, watched and attempted to follow through a few videos on the interweb and looked through some manuals and can’t quite figure out whats going wrong.

Ideas & Help much appreciated!

You may not being trying to install ACX-Check.

the ACX Check plugin should look like this.

ACX-Check.ny

Sometimes, your Mac, to “help you,” will add .txt to the end of the file.

ACX-Check.ny.txt.

That won’t install. Right-Click > Get Info, Control+Click > Get Info, or Click > File > Get Info and see if that’s what happened. If it is, you can use the INFO panel to delete the .txt part. Then install as any other plugin.

Remember, you also have to Analyze > Add-Remove Plugins to get it to appear, and obviously, it’s an analyzer, not an effect.

Also, there are older and newer ACX Checks. They work very similarly, but the old one won’t analyze long performances.

This one!

What were you doing before? I know it’s possible to check for ACX compliance without ACX-Check, but it’s pretty time-consuming and painful.

Are you using the Audiobook Mastering Suite of tools?

Again, you can do mastering without that suite of tools, but it’s painful.

Sorry. I missed my cue. You haven’t published anything yet, right? Did you settle on a microphone or recording system? Do you have a nice dead-quiet, echo free room to record in? Failing that, do you have a garage? A car?

Are you planning to publish with ACX?

ACX has two unexpected and relatively new restrictions to publication. I have to be able to buy your book on Amazon right now (reaching for credit card) and you can’t be reading a cookbook, yoga chants, or anything else on this list (scroll down).

My interpretation of the rule is you need characters, plot, and setting.

There are valid variations. There is “Hero’s Journey” by Joseph Campbell where he talks about character, plot, and setting.

Do Not read your whole book before you come up for air and check your work. You can submit a 10 second sound test to the forum and we can, most times guide you.

We have a pretty good track record for getting people published.
