Aucacity Crashes at start after asking to install VST Effect

After I start Audacity 2.0.4 on Windows 8-64 bit
a popup (see attached) asks to install VST Effects
Two files - Hard_limiter_1413.dll and sc4_1882.dll

Whether I answer OK or or Cancel — system crashes with a error message
saying that Audacity did something very, very bad – and then automatically reboots.

I tried 2.0.5 Alpha and it appears to function properly.

Thanks for your help.

ps (I believe I have 2.0.4 as the installer package is in my downloads - but I can’t start
the installed version to find out :frowning:
