Applying effects to part of a track..

G’day all, complete newbie here I’m afraid. New to Audacity and to this forum, so please forgive me if this has been done to death before. Using Win7 and Audacity 2.0.6 btw.

I have a quite long spoken voice recording. The 1st 30(ish) minutes are at a very low level. ie the source is recorded at a very low level, and after the 30(ish) minute mark for the last 60 minutes the level is fine. What I’ve been trying to find out is whether or not I can apply the “Normalize” effect to just the 1st part of the recording by itself, and then apply “Normalize” to the 2nd part of the recording. I figure that then the whole recording should be at roughly the same level.

Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers

Certainly you can. Just select the first half and apply Normalize the select the second half and run Normalize again.

Be careful at the join as you may get a discontinuity which will sound as a click - you can fix this with the Repair effect.

To make this easier I would place a temporary label at the halfway position.
