'Apply chains' deletes my tracks.. what's going on?

Every time I try to apply a chain to a list of files, I see the files open and the effects being applied, and then – poof. I am left with one blank audacity interface with no tracks.

For example, if I have a chain that involves amplifying and adding echo, and I use Apply chain > Apply to files to apply this chain to Track1, Track2, and Track3, I see the following:
Track1 opens, the waveform shows the amplification and echo being applied, then the track disappears; Then similarly for Track2 and Track3. After the chain has finished I am left with an empty Audacity interface with the name ‘Track3’ on the top bar, but no tracks. View > History reveals only one action: ‘remove tracks’.

This happens no matter what chain I construct, if I use ‘Apply to files’. BUT if I ‘Apply to Current Project’ it works fine (tracks don’t disappear).

Any ideas what is going on? Your help would be much appreciated

It is working as stated here http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/apply_chain.html#apply.

After each imported file is processed, the temporary disk space used by that file is cleaned out and the tracks are removed. As long as you added an export command at the end of the Chain, the exported file will be saved in a folder named “cleaned” in the same folder that the original file came from. The original files are not altered.
