Apply an effect to a region (only...)

I thought I saw a post on this already, but no amount of searching can find it again…

I decided I wanted reverb over a portion of a track, but not all of it. I selected a region, saw it highlighted, added the reverb plugin (MuseFX). Upon playback I find reverb has been applied to the whole track…

Okay, scratch that… Go back in and split the track where I want the reverb to begin, select this region, saw it highlighted, added the reverb plugin. Upon playback I find reverb has been applied to the whole track…

Anything else I can try…?

Thanks..

Real-time effects act on the entire track.

To apply an effect to just part of a track, use effects from the Effect menu.

How interesting…

So.. the VST plugins we can get from MuseHub are real time and non destructive…?

Wherein, application of any of them results in the effect appearing across your whole project..

The built in, Audacity effects are, destructive.. If you don’t like what you have applied, hit the undo button and have another crack..

Following that hyper link, I read that by duplicating your track and applying a destructive effect to the new track, adjusting the gain of this second track you may be able to control the amount of effect..

Superb…

Take the rest of the day off…!

I don’t use Windows or VST effects, but I think they should be able to do both real-time and destructive.

  • Effects selected from a track’s “Effects” button are real-time effects.
  • Effects applied from the top “Effect” menu are destructive effects.
