I am digitizing a cassette tape. I reached the end of side one and paused the copy while I turned it over. I cannot figure out how to resume recording.

“P” to pause and “P” to start it up again.
You can also press Stop and then Append Record (Shift-R) to start it up again. Audacity will only Append Record at the end. You can’t use it for trimming or editing.

So, can I edit/clip the tail and then use Append Record? If so, can you give me a quick explanation on how to clip the tail?

After you have deleted the excess, you’ll probably want to apply fade-out.
