App not responding

I just upgraded to Audacity 2.3.2 after deleting previous install and all associated files. App opens fine, but when I try to open a file to work on (I have only tried to open MP3 files to this point) the Mac Beachball appears and I have to force quit the app. Any ideas, please?

Where are the MP3s?

I see by your graphic that your system is trying to do a Time Machine Backup while you’re working.

I do my Time Machine backups manually so I can predict when they happen. I wouldn’t be shocked if that process could mess up anything with critical file timing—such as opening an MP3.

Tried the app while no Time Machine back occurring - still beach balling. The MP3 I was trying to import is in my iTunes folder.
