My mic volume is perfect with standard settings within Audacity, but Skype, internet and WMP are all ridiculously quiet. How do I fix this?
To record both sides of a Skype conversation you need special software.
For suggestions of suitable software, see: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/blank-spots-recording-skype/34380/2
For recording sounds that are playing on your computer, assuming that you are using the current 2.0.5 version of Audacity and are using Windows Vista or later, use the “WASAPI loopback” option as described here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer.html
Any noise generated through PC is quiet
Just for future reference - In audio jargon, “noise” is unwanted sound. It could be a hum, buzz, or hiss from the analog part of your system/soundcard, or a digital “glitch”, or it could be a dog barking when you are trying to record yourself singing. So, a quiet noise is better than a loud noise, and no noise is better than a quiet noise.
