Another copy of audacity running

I’ve been getting this message every time I’ve tried to open audacity

"The system has detected that another copy of Audacity is running.
Running two copies of Audacity simultaneously may cause
data loss or cause your system to crash.

Use the New or Open commands in the currently running Audacity
process to open multiple projects simultaneously."

I’ve tried uninstalling, reinstalling, running in with/without compability mode, I’ve tried looking for the locked audacity files, and changing settings. And it STILL DOESN’T WORK!!!

Help somebody! >=O

What operating system are you using? Windows 7?

Yes

If you are still have an old 1.2 version of Audacity open and launch a 1.3. or 2.0.x version of Audacity, you will get that message. So quit and uninstall 1.2 if you have it.

Make sure you have the current 2.0.3 version from here:
http://audacityteam.org/download/windows .

If necessary, uninstall all other versions of Audacity then install 2.0.3.

If you still get the message:

  1. Follow these steps to show hidden files and folders http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/show-hidden-files .
  2. Force quit Audacity on the “Processes” tab of Windows Task Manager.
  3. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to UsersAppDataRoamingAudacity .
  4. Open the “audacity.cfg” file in Notepad and select and delete all the content. Then copy and paste the following content into audacity.cfg:
NewPrefsInitialized=1
[VST]
Enable=0
Rescan=0
  1. Save audacity.cfg.

Does Audacity open now?
