I had another recording ruined. 20 minutes gone. this is the second time its happened and the only trigger is when I’m recording in audacity and there’s more than one track.

Audio-Technica AT2020 XLR mic
Audacity 3.7.1
I have not changed any settings in the preferences. I’m just using default audio settings. See how I have two tracks in the audio? When I record a single track everything is fine. As soon as a create a second track - anything I record on any track after that becomes super crackly. You can hear a sample recording below. Is there any way to prevent this so I don’t lose future audios? is there any way for me to recover/repair the wave file so I don’t have to record it all over again?
Super frustrated because generally I don’t need two tracks. but over time I’ll forget about this issue and record something long with two track when I listen by heart sinks.
