I have installed AMToneGen to generate amplitude modulated tones for personal use for entrained gamma wave (brain wave) experimentation. This requires a continuous AM tone for one hour at least. However, AMToneGen seems to limit the total run time of the generated AM tone to 100 seconds. Setting the “selection time” in the app dose not override the 100 sec “Duration” variable in AMToneGen’s “Presets & Settings” window. Would appreciate any workaround. Thanks in advance.
Modify the plugin with a text editor to increase the maximum duration.
I don’t think that would be good for your hearing or your sanity. But it’s your funeral.
Thanks Trebor…changing this to 3600 sec worked!
Lots of seemingly reputable research in the area of gamma (brain) wave entrainment using AM tones or flickering light at 40Hz. Shows potential for Alzheimer’s and general improvement in brain function. I have not seen any evidence of subjects going mad or suffering hearing loss.
One press type article from MIT but you can dig in very deep to see the detailed results: How sensory gamma rhythm stimulation clears amyloid in Alzheimer’s mice | MIT News | Massachusetts Institute of Technology
I believe there is one other flaw in the program: While I can get AM using a 40 Hz sine wave to modulate a higher frequency tone, I cannot get a 40 Hz pulse to modulate at all. Curious if anyone can point out something in the code that prevents this function from working? Thanks in advance.
I believe all the research has focused on AM of sine waves with square wave pulses.
I could not get this to work in AMToneGen but got this effect by importing a 400 Hz tone into GoldWave and running it through the GW “Mechanize” filter. The modulated waveform is indeed a “chopped” on/off effect whereas the sine wave AM is a gentle sine wave variation in volume. Also, GW can do AM with triangular and sine waveforms. No ability to vary duty cycle however.
Why does it have to be monotone ?
Why not chop music or speech or white noise into 40Hz chunks with a ring modulator …
It gives you the option to change the pulse bias (duty cycle).

Looks like a great solution. What is meant by “Ring” modulator,is that the ring tone on a phone?
Oh, I see… 4 diodes in a ring… signal multiplication!
