Hi all, I’ve searched these forums but can’t find anything similar to my problem.
I’m running Windows 7 on a new Asus laptop
The problem started while using my old Asus laptop, but I put it down to drivers and assumed all would be good on the new one.
Also this only happens 9 times out of 10.
Almost every time I open Audacity all sound devices cut out and I have to reboot to get them working again.
I’ve been using Audacity for many years and only in the last 6 months or so has this become a problem, so I suspect it relates to a version that was released this year?
It happens no matter whether I open the music direct with Audacity or I open Audacity first then open the music file from there.
You could go to the Asus site and make sure you have their latest audio drivers for your specific computer model. If you have 64-bit Windows, get the 64-bit drivers.
What playback sound devices do you have other than the built-in sound card? Which device do you want to use in Audacity and which device do you want to use when you are in other applications like Windows Media Player?
Are you selecting the playback device you want to use for Audacity in Device Toolbar?
If you have external audio devices you don’t want to use in Audacity , have you tried disconnecting them before launching Audacity?
Did you update Audacity six months ago? It has been almost a year since the last release. Audacity does not update itself, unless you installed an external tool to do that.
