Aligning tracks based on beginning of sound

Is it possible to align two Audacity tracks based on beginning of sound?

By “beginning of sound” I of course mean point where waveform starts significantly differentiating from just noise (e.g. start of drum pattern). It is understood that two tracks would be first prepared by eliminating pops and clicks before start of actual content.

So, is it possible to automatically offset second track so that it’s “beginning of sound” matches first track’s “beginning of sound”?

Maybe not automatically. You can do it manually with the Time Shift Tool. Two sideways black arrows. Click on the track you want later and push.

You could trim off the leading silence using the “Truncate Silence” effect: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/truncate_silence.html
Then “Align Tracks Together”: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tracks_menu.html#align

Thanks, those are options closest to what I need. That will do.
