It seems Audacity cannot share the computers sound device with any thing else… Youtube, VLC. This applies to both recording and playback.
I found closing Windows IE, and VLC seems to be a work around this. That is everything works fine.
I could roll back the latest windows update but… It actually solved another problem with my Fender Mustang Amp, which was having a problem with Windows Silverlight.
So I guess I will have to live with this for now…
btw this problem is/was occurring with 2.0.3 & 2.0.4
Reinstall Audacity 2.0.4, make sure “Reset Preferences” is checked half way through the installer.
Before starting Audacity after reinstallation, right-click over the speaker icon by the system clock, then choose “Playback Devices”. Right-click over the playback device you’re using, then choose “Properties”. Then click the “Advanced” tab and uncheck both “Exclusive Mode” boxes. On the same tab, set Default Format to 2 channel 44100 Hz 16-bit. Click OK.
Now choose the “Recording” tab. Do the same as above for each recording device - uncheck Exclusive Mode then set Default Format to 2 channel 44100 Hz 16-bit.
Can you play or record then in Audacity?
If not, does it help if you select the output or input you want in Device Toolbar before playing or recording (even if the device is already selected)?
Are some or all of the issues solved? It may help others to know how you solved problems. Was the problem that you were using the Windows WDM-KS host in the first box of Audacity Device Toolbar?
“Reinstall Audacity 2.0.4, make sure “Reset Preferences” is checked half way through the installer.”
Simple as checking “Reset Preferences”
Actually I done this before Reinstalling, just to see if it made a difference on the previous installation and it didn’t
“right-click over the speaker icon by the system clock, then choose “Playback Devices”. Right-click over the playback device you’re using, then choose “Properties”. Then click the “Advanced” tab and uncheck both “Exclusive Mode” boxes.”
