Adding silence before the recorded noise

I’m using macOS 11.7.2 & Audacity 3.2.2 I’m using Audacity of the first time - how exciting!
I think my request is simple - I have a 30s recording of a bell. I would like to add some minutes of silence to the track, before the bell sound starts. Please tell me this is easy to do!
Many thanks - and a Happy Christmas to all who celebrate the festival.

Zoom out then drag the clip to the right.

Or you might want to add real silence instead of a gap.

To do that

  1. move the cursor to before the start of the bell sound
  2. Generate > Silence
  3. specify the amount of silence you want
  4. click the Generate button

Bill’s method gives more flexibility in repositioning the bell sound later.
