I can never – never – get the envelope curve not to move when I click on it to add a new inflection point; I’ve noted this on all three platforms. Is there magic? Or should the routine which performs “Add a new point to an envelope curve” merely not allow an adjustment in the same gesture, and it does? (I am inclined to believe this is the proper implementation, myself).
I have tried zooming in both directions, and while this ameliorates the problem somewhat, it does not make it go away. It is, of course, worse on trackpads, and nonexistent on TrackPoints.
I would have put “OS/X 10.10.0, Mac 2.0.6 from DMG” in my signature, but I can’t find where to do so. Is that globally off, or off for new users, with no explanatory message (to properly frustrate users who are new to a board, but not new to phpBB, or, y’know, the 'net)?
I agree that the Envelope Tool is rather fiddly. That was what prompted me to write the Adjustable Fade effect (Audacity Manual)
Having said that, for doing any serious audio editing, you really need to use a more precise pointing device than a touchpad unless you are happy to do everything from the keyboard (though setting and adjusting envelope points is one of the very few operations that cannot be done from the keyboard). Ideally we would like all functions to be accessible to visually impaired and other non-mouse users. To that end, just separating the actions of adding points from dragging points, does not go far enough because it they remain inaccessible to some users.
Regarding signatures - as koz indicated, the feature was being abused too much by spammers and so was reluctantly disabled for all but regular contributors.
Seems to me I’d had problems with it with a mouse as well, but I’ll give that another try.
I can live, I suppose, without signatures enabled (though phpBB really ought to hide the “Enable Signatures” radio button in the UCP when that’s turned on), but I’m having a really hard time with “every single comment has to be moderated”, notwithstanding how quickly the moderators are in fact getting to comments.
I’ve been involved with computer-mediated communications since about 1982, and I’ve never found that to be necessary, nor, in the long term, productive; what apocalypse warranted it here?

As I said, I find it fiddly, and I am a regular mouse user. It’s something that I would like to improve at some time, but there are other priorities.

If your implication is “all comments are moderated for new users”, you’ll find it much less irritating to those whose first rodeo it is not if you simply tell people that up front, which the registration process does not.

That describes at least two of the web boards in which I participate, and I don’t see them having that much trouble with post-moderation instead of the pre- sort.

What occasioned it was floods of SPAM much of it very unpleasant (Russian porn sites with people in *interesting" positions), some of it downright dangerous (carrying the unwary to websites with a payload of Trojans/viruses) - and some very annoying trolls. The mods work hard here to try to keep this small corner of cyberspace a family-friendly and nice place to be. Unfortunately we had to introduce new-user moderation plus some other stuff to help us manage this.
