"Active" vs "passive" tempo setting

When changing the tempo using this widget…

…would like to see an option (maybe in Preferences?) to not change the tempo of the clips/recordings. In other words have the option for the feature to be “passive” not “active”.

Why?

  1. Sometimes songs have more than one tempo. Changing the tempo this way changes the entire song.
  2. Sometimes I have older project files (pre-time signature feature) and want to “describe” the tempo so I can then use the measures/beats ruler. But I don’t want the tempo to change.
  3. Currently, when copying clips from other projects, the tempo is changed, even if I don’t want it.
  4. If the tempo value was “passive”, can always change the tempo “manually” using “Effects”.

The ability to align clips to measures/beats rather than time is a great time-saver and more intuitive…until this issue gets in the way. It’s the reason I avoided upgrading from 3.3 for a long time.

PS - I guess this is strictly speaking a feature request. But since it is to address an annoying obstacle rather than a “nice to have”, I included the “bug” category.

Thank you for listening!

Joe
