I can hear my guitar in the monitor and can record it and play it back. When I try to add effects, the dialog box comes up but when I preview the sound I don’t hear the effect 
nor is it added when I punch the OK button and record. It is not there on the playback
Audacity doesn’t do anything in real time. The effects only work in post production. Record the guitar and then apply the effects later.
