9996 error out of the blue?

Hi,
using windows with wasapi for ages but then 9996 error pops up. Using loopback preamp/speakers just trying record from web radio as per and boom, or not, no joy.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance

Someone will correct me, but 9996 error is ā€œI canā€™t find a drive.ā€ Are you trying to use a Cloud Drive with Audacity? Stop doing that. Always use internal drives with Audacity.

The problem isnā€™t that it fails, the problem is that it doesnā€™t always work.

Thanks for the reply, youā€™re correct about error message but Iā€™m using internal drive only, so the error is baffling?

Anyone have a response?
TIA

Same issue here, on an old Windows 8.1 laptop that I sometimes use, I now get the same error that you reported, when I try to record from ā€œloopbackā€ (on laptop internal or USB audio device). The problem apparently started with the recent upgrade. I donā€™t need the new versionā€™s features, so I plan to downgrade in hope to recover loopback recording functionality on this old laptop.

I tried older versions and got same error, so you maybe out of luck there too.

Dā€™oh! ā€” Iā€™ve just now returned to my project, and quickly found my fix. Iā€™d forgotten that I had changed Audacityā€™s Recording Channel setting to Mono for a previous project. Iā€™ve reset it to Stereo, and loopback recording now works without error. ā€” If that doesnā€™t help in your case, check also some other settings that are mentioned on the relevant help page.
