I have been using Audacity for a couple of weeks. Today, when I exported my project to an mp3 file, it does not have sound. Nothing can be heard. I re-downloaded the lame plugin. That did not fix it. - F

For the first time ever?
Save the project.
You know it didn’t have sound because you opened it up in a fresh Audacity and it wouldn’t play? Does it have the right number of minutes? Was it shorter or longer?
Open a fresh Audacity. Generate > Noise: Pink, 0.5 amplitude, 1 minute duration > OK.
File > Export Audio > MP3.
Does that MP3 file play? Do you hear the SHSHSHSHSHSHS of pink noise?

Can you export to WAV? If so, as a work-around you can use any MP3 encoder. [u]TAudioConverter[/u] can convert WAV to MP3 (or to/from many other formats). TAudioConverter also uses LAME to make MP3s, but you don’t have to download it separately.

Did you run the downloaded exe file to install LAME?
When you play the MP3 (in Windows Media Player or whatever you use) does it appear to “play silence”, or you do you get some kind of error? What happens when you import the silent MP3 into Audacity? Does it import a silent file? Is the playing time correct?
No its not first time ever. I have made 2 other mp3s and they worked fine. Not sure what happended this time. I will try your other suggestions. thanks. - f

Inside the Audacity program yes I hear the pink noise. But when i export to mp3 I do not.
Its almost like I have turned off my speakers or something. Can it be something as silly as that? - F
It would help if you told us your version of Audacity and Windows (see the pink panel at the top of the page).
