So I have a Shure Green Bullet Harmonica microphone, and a Steinberg UR12 interface hooked up to my PC. When I record into stereo, I only get sound in the right speaker/headphone, and if I try to pan it to the left/center, it disappears. When I record in mono, I get nothing.
What’s going on? Is this normal? Can I not record this mic directly in the center?
The Jack input on the UR12 is hard wired to channel 2, which is the right channel when recording stereo.
When you record mono, the UR12 drivers deliver the sound from channel 1 only (the XLR input).
To use the jack input for a mono recording, record in stereo, then when the recording is complete, use “Split Stereo to Mono” in the track drop-down menu. See: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/splitting_and_joining_stereo_tracks.html
The empty track may then be deleted by clicking the [X] in the top left corner of the track.
