Re: distorted/clipped playback of recorded music

and tomorrow I will begin again the search for some type of solution to my problem - this time with checkbook in hand. It's still true ... you get what you pay for. If you are still here, I suggest you get a simpler recording-only application, perhaps Total Recorder ($18 USD & up) rat...

Re: reattach sound file to wmv video

Typically, this would be done with a video editor. Personally, I use Corel Video Studio ($100 USD) and Womble ($100). But if you don't have a video editor, you might be able to do it with Windows Movie Maker (FREE!!!!) or avidemux (FREE!!!). (I don't use either of these programs, so I'...

... into the microphone jack on the laptop... I suspect that using the microphone jack as the computer input is the main source of my problem, but I don't know what else to do ... Right!!!! Your preamp-outputs are "line level" which is 10-100 times the signal-level of a microphone. And, you are run...

Re: V1.3.13 stalls on W7 (32 bit) SP1

I don't know exactly, but It's probably a Windows issue... I think Audacity uses the Windows supplied MP3 de coder. (It uses LAME for en coding.) You might try re-installing Windows Media Player (and unistalling the old copy). I assume WMP can play the file? I 've heard of a similar issue before, an...

...clipping/distorted sound on playback. im using an sm57 into a mixing desk... What? Is this a recording problem or a playback problem? Can you play back other sounds OK? If it's a recording problem it could be a driver (or a driver-settings issue). The recording application (Audacity) just sets-u...

Re: 1.3 Recording Issue

Are you connected analog or USB/digital?

Do you have the same problem with the playback/monitoring system, or is it just the recording?

Is there a balance control. Are you using a mixer? If so, check you pan controls on the mixer.

Any other details you can give us?

Re: Unable to get audio on computer speakers

You're recording OK, but you can't hear what you're recording, right? Windows has separate recording & playback mixers*, so you don't always hear what you are recording. What version of Windows are you running? Try double-clicking the speaker icon, then click Options -> Properties , and you should b...

Re: Hiss is mic or sound card or Audacity?

It's not the software. The recording software just "routes" the digital data from you soundcard to the hard drive, and sets-up the format, etc. If your headset is USB, it's the problem. Noise/hiss is an analog problem (there are exceptions, like 8-bit digital). Nothing on the USB/computer side is an...
