Re: Recording Help

Recording a new track to go with an existing track is called "overdubbing" (or "overdub recording").

Re: Know the amplitude (volume) of a file.

1. Select the audio that you want to measure (it could be the entire track, or just part of a track) 2. Open the "Amplify" effect. 3. Observe the default "Amplification (dB)" setting. By default, the Amplify effect offers to amplify up to 0 dB, so the "Amplification (dB)" setting shows the number of...

Re: label-sounds.ny not working for me, both mac and windows.

Followed your steps and it indeed labeled the sounds, first time I've seen it work. Exciting. Super :D Let's turn our attention to the audiobook recording. What are you trying to label? Your screenshot looks like one continuous noise, but I assume there are some small gaps that you are trying to de...

quicker way 2.0 of appending Is the "2.0" a typo, or does that mean something? appending a second file to the end of one already on the timeline? I assume that you mean that you are importing a file into a project that already has an audio track. 1. Import the audio file 2. "Ctrl + A" (select All) ...

Guess i'll go and redo around 3000-4000 files as soon as it gets colder inside again.
Before you do that, listen to some of them and decide if you actually need to do anything. There's a good chance that there's no problem with them.

Re: label-sounds.ny not working for me, both mac and windows.

Basically, I can't get label-sounds to detect more than one sound in a very long track. Let's try a test case to check that the plug-in is actually working. Launch Audacity "Generate menu > Risset Drum" with default settings (as shown here ), then "OK". "Effect menu > Repeat" (below "Repair"), set ...

Re: Stops Recording After 6 or 12 Minutes

could indicate that something happens every 6 minutes that has a 50% chance of causing Audacity to stop. That sounds plausible. Audacity does not have a 6 minute timer, so if your theory is correct you need to look for the app that does something every 6 minutes. The Windows Task Manager may provid...

Re: recorded audio breaking up

Interestingly, when I repeatedly play back generated tone, the interuptions vary in frequency and time scale location each time. That shows that your computer is struggling to read the audio from disk and send it quickly enough to the sound card. Somewhere there is a bottleneck that is preventing t...

Re: Why does audacity convert 16 & 24bit files to 32bit float?

setting audacity to open 16bit files as 16bit and work like that Don't do that. That's the worst of all options as it can cause Audacity to add dither multiple times. The simplest approach is to just leave Audacity's sample format and dither options at their default settings. In the worst case, thi...

Re: Amplify or attenuate one channel only.

This procedure of leaving the stereo channels with different volumes, could it also be carried out converting the file into two mono tracks, making the adjustments and then going back to stereo again? Yes, that's the other way to do it. Splitting and joining tracks is described here in the manual: ...
