I have tried (and tried to get my head around) the various links suggested. I'm thinking the problem might be I don't seem to have on my Windows Vista computer the driver I need to record directly what I hear from my speakers into Audacity, nor does the device manager currently give me any options ...

I just read the post thread titled "Vista SP1 and What U Hear" and wonder if our problems are the same. I did update to SP1 sometime around the time my system quit working. Anyone else have experience with Vista and SP1 using Audacity?
