... cases, where the source IS calling for those sounds. With better earphones, one can hear the correct sounds. Now, why in Audacity, and why not in Vista recorder, or other? THAT could well be because Audacity has a BETTER fidelity of recording THOSE more demanding sounds than the Vista recorder, ...

Re: Recording what I hear

... That's not unusual. That feature only works if it is supported by the sound card driver, and some sound card drivers do not support it (especially Vista) - This does not prevent Audacity working, it just means that you have to select the recording input using the Windows Mixer rather than selecting ...

Recording level and VU Meters

... I was running XP and transfering my old LPs and Cassettes to my hard drive. Recently, my computer failed and I had to replace it. I had to get Vista and reinstall to resume recording. Here is my issue. In recording, my input (VU) meters are pegged out at max, regardless of the position of the ...

Re: No Line-In in Vista

What hellosailor says is very true. Two USB soundcards that get recommended a lot on this forum are the Behringer UCA202 and the Edirol UA-1EX. The Behringer is cheaper, the Edirol has more features - you can check the specs of both on t'interwb and both companies are happy to deal with pre and pos...

Re: Recording what I hear

I don't use Vista - but from what I remember reading other postings under Vista control isover the sound is passed from Audacity to the Sound services under Vista and your soundcard & driver s/w - so that's probably why it doesn't show the mixer toolbar.

Recording what I hear

I'm sure this has been covered, but save me the looking and sorting through stuff trip... I'm running Vista, and Audacity works fine for other things. I'm trying to record what I'm listening to while streaming. I looked in the Realtek setup and apparently the driver isn't ...
