... happens is if I try to play the cd I've just recorded (or any cd) then I can't hear it unless I disconnect the deck and restart the pc. I am using Vista - does that make any difference? B

Or it's back to Windows, although the latest Vista has taken something of a hard line toward recording "What You Hear" or "Mix Out." Those options are missing.

can't record on vista
of course the drop down box is gone, but there is no more "record what you hear" that i used to use on xp. can't figure out out to record streaming audo, like internet radio and Yahoo jukebox. any help?

same here. on xp i always used the drop down box and used "record what you hear. with new laptop and Vista, the box

You're trying to access the What U Hear input (aka Stereo Mix), but your drivers aren't offering it as an option. It's a problem with your drivers, this is common amongst Vista users. We have a wiki page detailing what you can try at first, the section labeled ...
