How to identify transcoded files

Newbie here, so I could use all the help I can get. If I were to download a music file off the internet (blog, website, etc) how can I check to see that the files are not transcoded? I know I will have to open each song in Audacity and choose ...

I'm not sure what you're trying to fix here... You haven't said yet which Audacity version you are using... Is it 1.2.6? 1.3.12? It would help to know. Which OS-X version do you have? What is the size of the exported mp3s? Is the difference in free space after quitting audacity much bigger ...
