Thanks for a responding. A few questions if you have the time. Why does the level get louder when more tracks are playing? Forgive my greenness with audio but I do not understand why more tracks playing would raise the output level. Is there a way to lower all tracks levels equally at the same time?...

I am not sure how to use this forum, but if anyone sees this and can help me please do so.
I have windows 7 and audacity 1.3.12 and it doens't see my usb mike????

When two or more tracks are played together, the resulting level will be greater than either of the individual track levels, which is what you are seeing. You are going the right way about solving the problem, but you are not reducing the levels enough in each track. Try reducing each track by 6dB, ...

... input audio stream is the same as the original audio file(namely without distortion introduced by system hardware/driver) Can audacity do a bit help? or are there any other methods? Thank you!
