Re: exporting wav to ulaw
... a WAV with U-Law encoding, by choosing (external program) when you export. I don't think using FFmpeg to export the files from Audacity will help - the fmt chunk is the same size as that in the libsndfile files. Otherwise, I think I've gone as far as I can with investigations and possible ...

Re: Reel to reel conversion - old equipment
This is a sign off (on this issue) and thanks to all who helped. The ordered connector arrived and was put to work. I managed to get sound recorded as you said I would, and in the same way as other signals coming in on the Line In socket. Unfortunately ...

Re: only a low buzz noise coming through my microphone
... a recording of the buzzing noise at this URL so you can hear and feel the buzz... http://toofiles.com/a/202171.html I don't know if these will help, but I know sometimes it helps to see and hear a problem when trying to troubleshoot it instead of just reading about it. This mic is plugged in ...

Re: Output meter help.
No clips on my recorded tracks, but many times I will compress a track, usually not too extreme, and I will check the box that lets you normalize to 0db and when that box is checked usually there is a very small area of clipping. Usually less than a second.

only a low buzz noise coming through my microphone

Re: Output meter help.
Thr track fader only changes the playback volume of the track. It doesn't do anything to the original data that was recorded for the track. Effect > Amplify, on the other hand, does change the original data. The "Show Clipping" function will show where the track was clipped when recording,...

Re: Output meter help.
Thank you so much. My practice will be much more efficient tonight.
Would you mind one more? Am having trouble understanding the view clipping tool. It does not compensate for gain adjustment on the track faders right? What you see is at 0db on the faders?

Re: Output meter help.
Why does the level get louder when more tracks are playing? Simple addition. Two instruments will be louder than one. Three will be louder than two. The playback meter shows the level of the sum of whatever tracks are playing. Is there a way to lower all tracks levels equally at the same time? Sele...
