You missed a few important pieces of information... What operating system and audacity version? Brand and model of the usb turntable might help too. I'm assuming you're connecting it to the computer using the usb cable. Have you selected the USB device as the recording device? There's also ...

Audacity really needs to record to an internal hard drive. External hard drives can cause problems as there is no guarantee that they will be accessible when Audacity needs them (which is all the time while recording). How much free disk space is there on your internal hard drive? What is the total ...

As you have posted in the "Compiling Audacity" section we have no idea which version of Audacity you are using, or what operating system (and your question has nothing to do with compiling Audacity). If you can fill in some details then someone may be able to offer some help.

Hi Steve, I only brought up sound activated recording so I wouldnt be forced to started immediately recording when I hit the record button. I am not able to hit pause then record and then turn pause off to start the track moving. I can only record when I just hit the record button and the track pops...

Why are you talking about "Sound Activated Recoding"? Where does that come into the picture?
