cassettes play fine but record poorly
... jack and I have to UNcheck the play through box, or I get two different play-throughs with a slight echo. So I have play-through unchecked. Please help - I've been Googling this topic like mad and can't seem to find anything similar! Not to mention I'm a middle-aged fossil with a rather large collection ...

Re: Draft: HOWTO convert audio file formats
... so that i can still use the 200 or so cds already ripped and convert them directly? As a subsequent step i would ask --if I am not abusing your help guys-- if you could post an example on how to rip new cds to FLAC, and then how to convert them into MP3s. (On this last topic, could you share ...

Re: Help needed recording Vinyl, results sound harsh
oK, settled on 24/44.1KHZ WAVs
I seem to consistently prefer these to 16/44.1khz wavs on doubleblind tests.
Q, are there better wav to Flac convertors than those in Audacity?
I saw Sox mentioned.

Re: Help With Behringer XENYX X1204USB
Steve, Thanks for the reply. I'll have a go at configuring things as you've said as soon as I get the chance. The stuff I work with is really either interviews which are recorded on tape (I know!), or discs containing audio (usually noisy vox or telephone conversations), which I then have to clean u...

Re: Help needed recording Vinyl, results sound harsh
Resampling from 48 kHz to 44.1 kHz (or the other way) is not recommended. Those 2 frequencies were choosen on purpose to dificult conversion from one to the other. Have you ever tried an ABX test on that (double blind comparison)? With a good resampling algorithm the conversion is extremely close. ...

Re: Help needed recording Vinyl, results sound harsh
I may just stick with the 24/48 WAVs 48 kHz is the standard for DVD's. CD's standard is 44.1 kHz. If you plan on writing it to audio CDs later you should use 44.1 kHz instead of 48kHz. Resampling from 48 kHz to 44.1 kHz (or the other way) is not recommended. Those 2 frequencies were choosen on purp...

Re: Help needed recording Vinyl, results sound harsh
I'm currently listening to some test WAVs recorded at 24bit/48hz and they sound very good. However, when I downsample them to Flac they lose a bit of the sparkle. You may be unintentionally saving as 16 bit when you save as FLAC ... I think the default setting for FLAC in Audaciity is 16 bit (rathe...
