I was able to get it fixed. I started by using the fix clip in audacity. After the fix clip was done rendering I went back and used the compression effect on the clip and viola...the clip sounds servicable now. Thanks for your help.

... round. This is known as clipping, and the damage is usually permanent. Having said that, there is a tool in Audacity; Effect > ClipFix, which may help if the clipping is not too severe. It tries to reconstruct the parts of the wave which have been removed, but there are no guarantees. POL

You have to build it. Run Effect > Equalization. The blue line in the middle is a rubber band and you can push it around with your mouse. Make it look like this...
In Audacity 1.3, you can save it for use later.
