I want to record from a walkman
... shows recording from a Cassette player, but input device was configured to microphone !! I set it to `Line in' (as per instructions of audacity help) but not working. though I tried the `micropone' point of my PC as well. Nothing is working. can anyone help ?

"distortion" is a totally different issue to "latency".
You will need to describe the problem more clearly, or perhaps post a short sample, or add some screen shots to illustrate the problem, but if we don't know what the problem is then we can't help.
