Which linux distribution are you using? And which Audacity version? (Help menu -> About...) Are you using pulseaudio or any other sound system? Or accessing alsa drivers directly? In Audacity's Preferences -> Devices, what have you selected for Host and Recording ...

... wel, but to no avail. I did check the mixer by connecting the output to an amp and it works. I'm quite sure that I'm overlooking something. Please help.

1.3 beta doesn't give us enough information, we need to know the third number too. If you go Help menu -> About it should tell you exactly what version you have. Should be something like "Audacity ® 1.3.13-beta (Unicode)". You should be using version 1.3.13 ...

Isn't the manual already packed together with audacity in the ubuntu's package? In Audacity go to Help menu -> Manual
Does it show you the manual? (It should open a html version of the manual in your default web browser)

... sound muffled - for me it has to be something built into the settings but i can't find it...will continue to look and would appreciate any further help until i get the chance to rerecord! tom

My Usb Microphone Wont Show Up
... in my System Preferences and switched it from the built in mic. I go to Audacity to do the same thing but the usb mic doesnt show up. Can anybody help me??????
