How I installed the manual was to give myself group permissions to read/write for /usr/share/audacity Then I made a folder called "help" within that folder, then used the default archive manager (file-roller) to unzip the contents of the "help.zip" file into /usr/share/audacity/help ...

Yes but it takes me to the Manual for V 1.3.14 beta. My installation is V 1.3.12 beta...I guess not too much is different but the HTML help offers a download to install the 1.13.3 beta Manual which I thought would be good to have if working offline. The above discussion seems to be dealing ...

The manual is not included in the Ubuntu package.
The online version should be available by selecting it in the Audacity Help menu. (I don't usually bother installing the manual as the on-line version will always be the most recent version).

If so, what happened?1) Record the first track
2) Mute the first track
3) Record a second track.

Thanks for straightening out the terminology for me. Your #2 option works well. Now I'm trying to import some music that I bought (zipped) for the 8 projects, but nothing works. Can you help with that too?
