Most probably your sound card settings have changed.
What operating system do you use?
Which version of Audacity are you using? (look in "Help menu > About Audacity)
What are you recording from? Do you have it plugged in before you open Audacity?

I need some help again. I downloaded audacity and used it several times. Then I stopped using it for a while. Then it wouldn't record. So I went back and deleted it and downloaded it again and under preferences I need a "line-in" ...
