... when I was intending simply to move them. They're a bit small for my eyesight, and zooming doesn't enlarge them. Thanks again for all the help. The program's now doing a wonderful job, and not a penny spent!

... get a greater vocoder effect from the Easy Vocoder plugin is to do some other manipulations to the voice before applying that plugin... that may help a little. Thanks for the references to the other pages on this topic and others... I noticed a "Bass/Treble" plugin that I didn't know ...

You could be suffering from Windows trying to help you with your recording. Vista and Win7 have conferencing settings which try and tailor voice responses for conferencing, Skype, etc. It's precisely not what you want for theatrical recording. Windows ...

Check which Audacity version you are using (Help menu > About Audacity).
The Noise gate effect requires a fairly recent version of Audacity 1.3.x. The recommended version is Audacity 1.3.13 which you can get here: http://audacityteam.org/download/
