Thanks. The issue was as Gale had identified. Apparently I had the pause button on so it would not trim. Everything works per the tutorial as pertains to this so thanks. I have another question but will make a seperate post.

Yes, I am able to playback the first track. I figured out that if I take "overdub" off it works fine. thanks for the help anyway.

I downloaded the latest Audacity 1.3 Beta version for Windows 7 and everything works great now. Thanks for your help
