Gale, if I am understanding the question correctly, it was a new project. I start a new project for each recording. What I was left with was 1 hour of 23 minutes recorded, with the first 1 hour 9 minutes blank and then suddenly the audio comes in.

If you're getting the red meter, then you you are recording something, but perhaps it is just very quiet. Try applying the Amplify effect (with default settings) to what you have recorded.
