HELP BEFORE I GO POSTAL PLEEEEEZ!!!

Can somebody PLEEZ tell me in plain english how to re-record a song on my computer at a higher volume just so the end result is a louder version of the same song?

The Ubuntu / Debian repositories do not include the manual.

I'd like to amend my previous post. I downloaded Audacity from Synaptic Package Manager, not Ubuntu Software Center :oops: To be more specific on the Audacity version missing the help files in Ubuntu; it was 1.3.12-2. Thanks!
