I worked my way around it. Converted the file to a .wav in iTunes, then converted it to an .mp3 in audacity. Thanks for your help.

Which version of Windows are you using?
Which version of Audacity? (look in the Audacity Help menu > About Audacity for the full version number)
How far are you getting with the job? Where are you stuck?
