I really can't help, but a full system crash is usually a driver. That's why "kernel mode" drivers are supposed to be certified and digitally signed. A "user-mode" application isn't supposed to be able to crash ...

How do I record a CD from Audacity?

... to be to go on a CD. They've been saved to a file but I don't know how to get them to Windows Media Player so I can make a burn list of them. Any help will be very much appreciated. jcritchie

Maybe you're looking at the metering reaction to turning on in a system with no audio. In that case, the meter would pop up and settle back down to zero -- possibly further to the left than you could see it. I don't know how WinXP works exactly, but the general idea is to select Line-In in the Windo...
