if I'm in the wrong forum, I sincerely apologize. Ideally you should have posted on the "Audacity 1.2.x > Windows" part of the forum (as that is what you are using), but as Waxcylinder posted it would be best if you upgraded to Audacity 1.3.14 (from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/...

Installing Audacity fresh doesn't install Audacity fresh. Your preferences and settings are held in a separate file. You can change this file manually and simulate starting Audacity from First Birthday.

That's pretty weird about your system starting to make funky noises. Not sure why that would happen. For recording in Audi126, you need to change the device that Audaicity "listens" for when recording. You do that through: (main menu) Edit | Preferences | (tab) Audio I/0 | (section) Record...

What is the complete version number of Audacity you are using? Choose menu item Help > About Audacity it will be something like "1.3.13beta (Unicode)" (may also have a date), see: I had the same problem in earlier versions (1.3.10/11). I have no problem now.

... on Effect > Vocal remover [center panned ]. After doing that, now when I record my songs they are really loud and my voice isn't audible to me. Help me in this fix. I even re-installed the software but it has the same effect. I just want the default back, how can I get it ?

Thanks for the help. I checked my control panel and stereo mix is disabled. Also, I am using a shure sm57 mic which is plugged into the microphone jack of my dell desktop computer.
