Tried again and get same error message:

Project sample rate is 44100.

... care if you use tools of this type - if you select the wrong drive you could accidentally erase everything on your computer - if in doubt, seek help or just bin the faulty drive.

You don't have to cut and paste, either, you can use the envelope tool (white arrows and bent blue line) to fade each track in and out or present lower or higher volume during dialog -- two or three tracks in the show at once.
