... And when I go to Edit - Preferences...Devices...Recording Device. There are "No Devices Found" in the drop down menu. What next? Please help. I am running Audacity 1.2 on an older Laptop & it works fine. help on Windows 7 & Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode).

... versions save .aup.bak files. All future versions of Audacity will not open them. What three-section version number of Audacity are you using? See Help > About Audacity... 1.3 and what number after that? You could search your computer for the .aup file, just in case it has moved somewhere else ...

... think that the .asd is some sort of Ableton project thingy. It's really quite silly that this has gotten to be such a hassle, but I appreciate the help greatly!

Probably the filename extensions. Windows likes to hide filename extensions from you to "help you." If you restore the longform filenames to your work, you might find that the aif files you have are really something other than aif. -- Hidden File Extensions -- ...

can't record audio on computer and my voice at the same time
