I am trying to convert an old audiobook cassette to mp3's using audacity. The problem is that the tapes are old and the sound keeps getting quiet and then loud and then quiet and then loud again. What can I do to fix this? Please help!

Just to be clear - If you turn the internet connection on do you still get the message "do not appear to have help installed"?

Jim, this is actually nothing to do with Audacity. I think we've tried to help you a lot. I suggested that by downloading from the site instead of recording (search Google to find programs that download from music sites), you could just click a button (or two) ...
