I can't help with the driver issues, but regarding other software have you tried Reaper for recording (you can still use Audacity for editing).

My impression is you're asking the wrong questions. What did you call the show? What was the exact filename? You can cause problems if you use punctuation or odd characters inside a filename. I presume that you are using some version of Windows? If so you will probably find it helpful to "show all file extensions" (Google if you don't know how to do that).
