You must be in Stop mode, not Pause mode to do any editing.

You drag-select a portion of a clip and press DEL, right? Then you drag-selection a portion of a clip and silence it with Command-L?

Hi all, first post... I'm new to Audacity and have run into a pretty elementary problem... So, every time I delete a segment of a clip or add silence to it, Audacity is only allowing me to do it once at a time.
