I followed the instructions in http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=63588 and created a /etc/asound.conf file. After reboot PulseAudio appeared as pulse in both input and output devices. However, the volume control for input is greyed out (set to max). Still, I can record fine but ...

... sampling and i have tried recording intgernally in sound forge also and its doing the same thing, audio much louder on the right channel... please help me if you know what the problem is... thank you

It won't do a thing to the video, but it will slow down the audio. If you manage to capture a YouTube video, split apart the video and sound tracks and open the track in Audacity. You can use the "Change" tools. Effect > Change Tempo. Effect > Change Pitch. Effect > Change Speed. Koz

Don't be bashful about details. Which laptop? Model numbers? Which bass? Which Pickups?
I'm going to extend the question a little. You want to play bass along with other sound tracks and record the performance, right?
