Thanks guys, I was able to make my recordings with a ASIO driven recording program. At first I was not able to install these programs and I needed help from Creative Support to do so and they did help me out. But before that you did a great job in clarifying what went wrong in the first place. ...

Audacity includes in-built screen grabbing. Look under Help > Screenshot Tools. That might be a different command on your Mac: I look through Windows!

PGA, Thanks this works too, but means I have to record it twice and it seems to add noise. But it is a trick I'm glad to know and will use for other things in the future.
